Evaluation

What have I learnt from completing the task?

From completing this task I have learnt the importance of researching different connotations and how they affect the way the audience will react. This is important because I want my audience to react positively to my magazine cover. I have also learnt a lot of skills in Photoshop which I did not know before.

How did I use technology in this task?

I used Photoshop for this task because it is one of the leading photo manipulation software’s out there. This allowed me to fluidly edit my image and add things to it using layers which I could manipulate easily. I also used the internet to do my research. Doing my research gave me a better understanding of how to make my magazine and how to use some tools in Photoshop.

What conventions I have used and why?

In my magazine i included a masthead this is important because this drags your reader in. I made the masthead big so it stands out and can easily be read from far away.
I also included the price which i used the wording "Now Only £1.99" making it seem like it’s amazing it only £1.99.
I included a barcode because a magazine needs a barcode to be sold.
The clouds which are behind the masthead are in a cartoon style. this is so students think that it’s not to serious and the magazine is a laugh.
With my headline I used a funny headline and a serious one, again this is to bring in readers from two different demographics

What would i do if i did this again?

If I did this again I would manage my time more effectively to get a better result. With better time management I would have distributed my time for each task more evenly. I would also retake the photo somewhere where on right side of the image was clear and no to cluttered so you could read the headline more easily.

This is my mood board for my college magazine

Semiotics is an investigation into how meaning is created and how meaning is communicated. Its origins lie in the academic study of how signs and symbols (visual and linguistic) create meaning.
It is a way of seeing the world, and of understanding how the landscape and culture in which we live has a massive impact on all of us unconsciously.

PhotoShop

Today I experimented with Photoshop. I learnt how to cut images from there original background and place them onto my sand dune image. I used a series of techniques to get the required result. For example I had to use the feather tool to cut my bear out because a bear is a fury object and without this tool would look like it has just been stuck on the image. I also had to adjust levels because these pictures was taken in different location which would have had different lighting conditions. So I had to recreate some of the light or reduce some so the images all fit in the image together. The tool I used the most was the polygon lasso tool this tool allows me to cut the images from there orginal background and stick them on my sanddune image.
